While we guarantee that you wont regret visiting Japan, there are certain time periods where it is more favorable to go than others. Although eating out and shopping is cheap, getting there is fairly expensive so you want to make sure that you get the most out of your trip.

Don’t go in the rainy season

The tsuyu (梅雨) period which usually spans from late may to early to mid July can be a horrid time to be travelling. Its is very humid and it tends to rain very heavily, which will your limited days be hampered by the rain and your motivation to explore will diminish, it can also be dangerous. Due to global warming, the hurricanes that pass by Japan are becoming stronger and stronger. Therefore, there have more cases of flooding and landslides. Especially when you do not know the language, it can be really tough in figuring out the latest info. Early June to end of July. Especially if you are going to a beach resort, having to stay in the bad weather would be a huge bummer.

Try to go during the Cherry Blossom period

While many might be familiar, the Cherry Blossom period is one of the best time to visit. Cherry Blossom is a very symbolic tree which blooms around April. As many places are covered with Cherry Blossom Trees, Japan will be colored in white and pinkish color. During this period, many Japanese people go chill and have a picnic with family and friends to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms which is referred to as Hanami (花見). If you are either planning to cook or buy something to take to a Hanami, Yakisoba and Onigiri is one of the things you should consider taking.

Avoid Golden week

Referred to as Golden week in Japan, it is a period spanning from late April to early May which with April 29th, May 3rd, May 4th, May 5th is a national holiday, this is when the whole nation goes on vacation. Flights to Japan will be most expensive around the time when Japanese people are coming back from abroad which will be in early May and going back home will be very expensive when Japanese people will be going abroad which will be late April. As many employees are unable to take long breaks off of work which is why the government decided to force its citizen to take a break, it is one of the holidays where they get the most days off during the year. If you are travelling in Japan, expect an exponential increase in prices in transportation and accommodation, especially if you are considering going to places like Okinawa, which is a very popular destination in the summer. If you are visiting around this time period, make sure that you book things well in advance so as to make best use of your bucks.
