Hojicha Ice Cream (ほうじ茶アイス)

Hojicha ice cream is an amazing Japanese dessert that is not too sweet but not too bitter either. The tea which the ice cream is made from has a strong aroma of the earthy and smoky tea. A little bit about Hojicha Ice Cream (ほうじ茶アイス)

Hojicha ice cream is an amazing Japanese dessert that with the roasted bitter aroma and mild sweetness of hojicha, a type of tea that has been roasted over high heat. Not too sweet but not too bitter either. The way the tea is processed gives it a distinct, nutty flavor with smoky undertones. The ice cream’s smooth and creamy texture matches perfectly with the earthy and toasty flavour, and we have no doubt that you will love it.

 

Enjoying hojicha ice cream after a meal is a great way to end the your meal, as its not too sweet and it won’t leave too much of a sweetness in your mouth but enough to cleanse your palate, especially if you’ve had something oily to eat. It’s also an amazing desert during summer to cool down. Its also worth noting that Hojicha has a lower in caffeine content than other teas, it’s also a good option for an evening treat as you won’t have to worry too much about not being able to fall asleep.

 

As We mentioned before, if you are having something oily for dinner, such as Tonkatsu, Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) or Yakisoba, the Ice Cream will match perfectly so consider making the these main dishes if you are also considering making Hojicha ice cream! 

List of Ingredients you will need

(Serving for 2 people)

・Fresh cream: 100cc

・Hojicha Powder: 1 packet (6g) (You can purchase them in Chinese supermarkets or online on Wee etc.)

・Sugar: 40g

・1 Egg

Recipe

1. Add the fresh cream and sugar in a bowl. Whip the mixture
until stiff peaks form.

2. Crack the egg into the same bowl and mix well. Add the
hojicha powder and continue mixing.

3. Pour the mixture into a storage container and freeze it until firm. Your hojicha ice cream is ready to enjoy!

Super easy, right? Now you can cook an amazing Japanese desert without having to going to an ridiculously overprices Omakase restaurants.
